Most forums don't store pictures themselves: you host the image somewhere else and paste a code into the post. YourImageShare is a free image host for exactly that. Upload a picture, copy the BBCode, and it shows up in your thread on phpBB, XenForo, vBulletin, MyBB, SMF or any other forum that supports the [img] tag.

How to Post an Image on a Forum

  1. Upload the picture. Press Upload an Image and pick it from your computer or phone. On a computer you can also paste a screenshot with Ctrl+V.
  2. Copy the BBCode. When the upload finishes, open the BBCode tab and copy it.
  3. Paste it into your post. Paste the code into the forum's message box and preview or post. The image shows in the thread and links to its full-size page.

Several pictures for one post? Upload them together: each gets its own BBCode, or tick the album option to share the whole set with one link.

BBCode, HTML and Direct Links

Every upload comes with the codes forums and websites need. They look like this:

CodeUse it forExample
BBCodeForum posts and signatures[url=https://yourimageshare.com/ib/AbC123xYz0][img]https://yourimageshare.com/ib/AbC123xYz0.jpg[/img][/url]
HTMLForums that allow HTML, blogs, websites<a href="https://yourimageshare.com/ib/AbC123xYz0"><img src="https://yourimageshare.com/ib/AbC123xYz0.jpg"></a>
Direct linkForums with an "insert image from URL" buttonhttps://yourimageshare.com/ib/AbC123xYz0.jpg
Page linkSharing the picture in a message or chathttps://yourimageshare.com/ib/AbC123xYz0

The BBCode shows the picture in the post and makes it clickable, so readers can open it at full size. If your forum has an image button that asks for a URL, give it the direct link instead.

Image Size for Forums

Forums show pictures inside a column that is usually 800 to 1,280 pixels wide. A phone photo is often 4,000 pixels wide, so some forums shrink it and some make readers scroll sideways.

  • Resize first with the free image resizer if the forum doesn't scale images: 1280 pixels wide works on most.
  • Screenshots are usually fine as they are.
  • Animated GIFs work in BBCode too - see GIF hosting.
  • File size: images over 1 MB are optimized to WebP at the same dimensions so threads load faster; smaller ones keep their original format.

Why Host Forum Images Here

  • Links don't expire. Pictures in old threads keep working; nothing is deleted after a few months of no views.
  • No account needed to upload and get BBCode. A free account lists all your uploads in one place and shows how many views each one gets.
  • Full resolution and no watermark on your pictures.
  • Location data removed: EXIF data, including a phone's GPS position, is stripped before the image is stored.
  • For forum owners: add an upload button to your forum with our phpBB, SMF and MyBB plugins.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I post an image on a forum?
Upload the image, open the BBCode tab and copy the code. Paste it into your forum post and the picture shows up when the post is published.
Which forums does BBCode work on?
Any forum that supports the [img] tag, which includes phpBB, XenForo, vBulletin, MyBB, SMF and most other forum software.
Do forum images expire?
No. Images are kept until you delete them, so pictures in old forum threads keep working. Only set an expiry if you want the image to disappear.
Do I need an account to host forum images?
No. Uploading and getting BBCode needs no account. A free account lets you see all your uploads in one place and how many views each one gets.
My image is too big for the forum. What can I do?
Resize it to the width the forum shows, for example 1280 or 800 pixels, with the free image resizer, then upload the smaller copy.
