How to Take a Photo With Your Webcam
To take a photo with your webcam, press "Turn on camera", allow access, and press "Take photo". The photo appears for you to check before anything else happens.
- Turn on the camera. Your browser asks once; choose Allow.
- Pick the camera if you have more than one, and set a 3 or 10 second timer if you want to be in the picture.
- Take the photo. Not happy? Press Retake.
- Keep or share it. Download saves a JPG; Upload & get link hosts it and gives you a page link and a direct link to paste anywhere.
Record a Video
Switch to Video, choose whether to record sound, and press Start recording. A timer shows how long you have been recording; press Stop when you are done, or the recording stops on its own at 2 minutes. Play it back, then download it or upload it for a link. For longer videos, record with your camera app and use the Upload button.
USB Cameras and Phones
- USB webcams and capture devices appear in the Camera list once access is allowed, next to the built-in camera. Plug the camera in before you turn it on here.
- Phones and tablets:Switch camera changes between the front and the back camera. Webcams and front cameras start mirrored, like a mirror; the mirror button flips the picture, and the photo is saved exactly as you see it. Videos are recorded the way the camera sees them.
- Photos come out clean: a picture taken here carries no location or camera details.
If the Camera Won't Start
- Blocked: click the camera or lock icon in the address bar, allow the camera (and microphone for video) for this site, then reload.
- In use: close video calls and other apps or tabs that use the camera.
- No camera found: check the cable and that the camera is switched on, then reload.
- On a phone: "Use your phone's camera app instead" always works, and the photo or video comes straight back to this page.
