Screenshot, Annotate and Share a Link from Chrome or Firefox

A screenshot is usually the quickest way to report a bug, ask for help or show a colleague what you mean. The capture takes a second. What comes after takes longer: save the file, find it again, open an upload page, wait, copy the link. YourImageShare Capture is a free browser extension for Chrome and Firefox that turns all of that into one step: capture, mark it up, and get a shareable link without leaving the tab you are on.

Update, October 2026: YourImageShare Capture launched on Firefox in July 2026 and is now also on the Chrome Web Store, so this guide covers both browsers.

Install it in your browser

Both versions are the same extension with the same features. Installing does not need an account. You only need a free account and an API key for publishing, the one feature that sends a screenshot to YourImageShare.

Three ways to capture

Each capture mode has its own keyboard shortcut, so you never have to open a menu in the middle of a task:

  • Alt+Shift+1, visible tab: exactly what is on screen right now.
  • Alt+Shift+2, region: drag a box around the part of the page that matters, such as one error message or one chart.
  • Alt+Shift+3, full page: the whole page, including everything below the fold. The extension scrolls and stitches it into one image for you.

You can also start any of the three from the extension's toolbar button. In Chrome you can change the shortcuts at chrome://extensions/shortcuts; in Firefox, under Add-ons > the gear menu > Manage Extension Shortcuts.

Mark it up before you share it

Every capture opens straight in a built-in editor instead of landing in your downloads folder as a raw file. From there you can:

  • draw rectangles, ellipses and arrows to point at what matters
  • type text directly on the image, or sketch freehand with the pen
  • blur anything that should not be seen: an email address, an account number, a name in a support ticket
  • pick the colour and line width, and undo or redo any step

Blurring before you share is the habit worth building. Once a screenshot is in a chat or a ticket, you no longer control who sees it, so hide personal details first. If you need more than the extension's editor offers, the free online screenshot annotation guide covers callouts and highlights, and the blur tool works on any image you already have.

Three ways to finish

  • Download the result as a PNG.
  • Copy it to the clipboard and paste it into a chat, an email or a document.
  • Publish it to YourImageShare and get a direct link back in one click, ready to paste anywhere.

Downloading and copying work without an account. Publishing is what makes the extension an upload tool rather than only an annotation tool: the link works for anyone you send it to, on any device, without them installing anything.

Set up publishing once

  1. Create a free account on YourImageShare if you do not have one.
  2. Open the API tab in My account and copy your API key.
  3. Open the extension's Settings, paste the key and save.

That is the whole setup. From then on, every capture can go from your screen to a working link in one click. Published screenshots go to your account and are unlisted: anyone with the link can open them, but they are not listed publicly. You can find and delete them in My account at any time.

Publishing uses the same upload API as our JavaScript and Python libraries, the MCP server and the ShareX, Flameshot and Greenshot integrations, so a key you already use there works here too.

What the extension can and cannot see

Screenshot extensions need real permissions, so here is exactly what this one uses them for:

  • It only takes a screenshot when you click a capture button or press a capture shortcut, and only of the tab you are on.
  • Nothing leaves your browser until you click Publish. Download and copy stay entirely on your device.
  • Your API key is kept in the extension's local storage on your device and is sent only to yourimageshare.com with an upload.
  • It does not read your browsing history, include analytics or tracking, or show advertising.

The full details are in the browser extensions section of our Privacy Policy.

When to use the extension, and when something else fits better

The extension is built for the moments you are looking at a web page and need to capture, mark up and share what is on it, right now. If you capture whole desktop windows or other apps, a desktop tool is the better fit: ShareX, Flameshot and Greenshot can upload straight to YourImageShare too. And if uploads should happen from a script, a build pipeline or an AI agent, the API and client libraries cover that.

Whichever route a screenshot takes, the goal is the same: get from capture to a working link with as few steps in between as possible.
